Ollie, the Airport & Ancient Greece! A Fun Story About Ollie & His Adventures En Route to Greece.

Ollie, the Airport & Ancient Greece is a vibrant and imaginative tale designed to help young children navigate the overwhelming and often exhausting experience of international travel. For a child, an airport isn't just a building; it’s a sprawling labyrinth of loud noises, long queues, and mysterious machines. This story follows Ollie as he embarks on a grand adventure from the familiar comforts of home to the sun-drenched, historic landscapes of Greece.

The story focuses on patience and anticipation. It acknowledges the "waiting" parts of travel—the security lines and the long sitting—and shows how curiosity can make the time fly. It’s a perfect read for any little traveler preparing for their first flight.

Ollie fidgeted in the taxi as he and his family drove to the airport for their vacation.

He was so excited that he talked non-stop the whole ride, hardly pausing to breathe!

“When we get to Greece, I’m going to stand on the hill of the Acropolis and hold up my sword like an ancient god!”

“When we get to Greece, I’m going to ride the donkeys of Santorini along the coast and pretend that I am a warrior who has returned from battle.”

“And when we dine in Greek restaurants, I’m going to dance the Zorba with the locals and smash plates!”

Ollie stepped out of the taxi and walked through the airport doors, amazed by everything he saw.

“Wow, this place is huge.”

The airport was bursting with energy and activity.

People were rushing in every direction, behaving as if they were going to miss their flight!

There were multiple lines of impatient travellers in front of the many check-in desks waiting to plonk their heavy bags onto a scale that magically made their suitcases disappear!

Other hungry travellers ate hot chips and drank soda at the airport cafes.

Ollie wondered, "I hope they feed us on the plane".

The airport was alive and breathing with noise.

Planes took off and landed one after another, while people chatted excitedly about their trips.

The speakers made constant announcements, listing the names of faraway places.

Mumbai.
Honolulu.
London.
Singapore.

No matter where Ollie looked, there was always something going on.

Through the tall windows that stretched all the way up to the ceiling, Ollie could see the aeroplanes on the runway.

They looked like gigantic metal birds.

He was amazed by everything happening around him.

Moving electrical walkways that resembled endless strips of licorice carried people from one section of the terminal to another.

A huge board with blinking lights showed where the planes were going and when they would leave.

The destinations changed so quickly that Ollie tried to remember as many as he could.

Norway.
Japan.
China.
Mexico.

A group of pilots in matching uniforms and hats walked past, each carrying a briefcase.

Ollie wondered which one would fly his plane.

A woman in uniform drove by on a beeping cart full of suitcases, waving to a ground staff member who was pushing a line of wobbly luggage trolleys that seemed to go everywhere but straight.

Ollie was so distracted by everything in the airport that he didn’t notice it was his turn.

He and his family had finally made it to the front of the check-in queue.

The check-in lady asked, “Where are you going today?”

Ollie answered confidently, "Yassou!", which is hello in Greek.

"We are going to Greece, Athens first".

He put his suitcase on the scale, said goodbye to the lady, and, in exchange, she gave him his passport and boarding pass.

Overhead on the speaker, he heard a voice say, “Flight A5150 to Athens now boarding at Gate 8.”

It was finally happening.

Holding his boarding pass and passport in one hand and his mother’s hand in the other, he walked to Gate 8 and followed the mysterious path to the plane.

Greece, here we come!

The End

The Core Lesson:  The Journey is Part of the Adventure

Travel can be overstimulating for children. This story helps parents prepare their little ones by predicting the environment. When children know what to expect (the bag checks, the waiting, the takeoff), their anxiety decreases. Ollie’s Adventure teaches that while the destination is exciting, the journey itself is a feat of bravery and patience. It encourages children to look for the "magic" in the mundane.
