Kingsley's Mammoth Makeover! A whimsical story about inclusivity, kindness, and the magnificent confidence found in a fresh start.

In the quiet town of Dombås lives Kingsley, a stylish barber with a gold-rimmed gaze and a heart of gold. Bored with his job at the local news station, Kingsley opens his own shop with a simple promise: "All Are Welcome". His mission is put to the ultimate test when a massive, tangled, and very shabby woolly mammoth squeezes through his door. The poor creature can’t see, can’t eat, and has lost his confidence.  Armed with a garden hose, a wheelbarrow of shampoo, and a bottle of fragrant beard oil, Kingsley performs a "Mammoth Makeover." Through this whimsical transformation, the mammoth doesn't just find a new style—he finds the courage to make friends and regain his confidence. It’s a story of looking past the "odd" to find the "magnificent" in everyone.

Deep in the forest, far from the city, there was a small town called Dombås, where Kingsley lived.

He didn’t have a middle name or a surname; he was just Kingsley!

Kingsley was a quirky young man with his own unique style.

He was medium in size, had a wolf cut, long on the sides with a thick, moppy fringe, and a short, well-groomed beard that covered his cheeks and upper lip.

He wore thick aviator-style glasses with a thin gold rim that made him look serious.

But Kingsley was not serious at all.

Kingsley was warm and generous.

He didn't notice things or people that others might find odd or unusual.

Kingsley treated everybody equally.

Until recently, Kingsley worked at the local TV station styling the hair for the local news presenter.

He adored the presenter, but he didn't like his job.

Every day he styled the same head with the same hairstyle, lots of teasing, sprays and spritzes of hairspray to shape it into a giant roll, and an army of hairpins to hold it all up!

One day, Kingsley decided the timing was right to open his own barbershop.

A fine establishment, he imagined, where every style, every type of hair, and every creature, big or small, was welcome.

So that’s what he did, he opened a brand-new barber shop called Kingsley’s Hairy’s in Dombås —All Are Welcome!

The sign twirled above the door, shimmering with every colour of the rainbow, inviting everyone (and everything) to stop by for a hairy!

As soon as Kingsley's shop opened, it was a success.
Just as the sign said, “All Are Welcome!”

Kingsley cut and styled the hair of townspeople, poodles, hamsters, hares, and even a hedgehog or two.

His clients, human or animal, kept coming and coming.

The day was ending, and Kingsley was busy sweeping up people's hair, horses' hair, and bunny fluff when he heard a loud thump.

The shop door flew open, and the woolliest, fluffiest, biggest creature Kingsley had ever seen squeezed inside—a real woolly mammoth!

His fur was twisted and tangled.

It was long and wild.

It was dirty and smelly too!

Simply put, the woolly mammoth was a tangled, shaggy mess.

“Excuse me,” he mumbled in a low, shy voice, “I saw your sign and wondered if you could help?”

“I let my fur get too long. Now it's so woolly and unruly.”

“I can’t see because my hair hangs too low!”

“I can’t eat because my fur hangs too low!”

“And I have no friends. Everybody makes fun of me because of how I look and smell.”

Kingsley was ready to help.

A new head of hair to style—what an honour!

“Of course! Let’s get started. Follow me to my courtyard!”

The woolly mammoth waited patiently while Kingsley ran to get the biggest comb he could find, a garden rake, a hose, loppers, and a wheelbarrow full of shampoo.

With some imagination and good sense, Kingsley worked his magic.

Step one: the wool wash!

Scrub, scrub, scrub!

Scratch, scratch, scratch!

Rake, rake, rake!

Rinse, repeat!

Rinse, repeat!

Step two: the hairy part!

Lop, lop, lop!

Comb, comb, comb!

Style, style, style!

Then it was time for the final step.

Step three: oil and shine!

Again, with some imagination and good sense, Kingsley worked his magic.

He grabbed his fragrant beard oil, poured the whole bottle over the mammoth, and rubbed it into his wool.

What a sight! The woolly mammoth was now a magnificent beast.

The woolly mammoth was speechless.

He looked at himself in the shop’s mirror and saw not just a neat, tidy mammoth, but also a new confidence shining back at him.

“Thank you,” he said. “I’m so grateful, Kingsley!”

“You’re welcome,” Kingsley replied. “Would you like me to schedule your next appointment and a complimentary bottle of my fragrant beard oil to go?”

The not-so-woolly mammoth excitedly responded, "Yes, of course!  I won't let my fur get so messy ever again".

From that day on, the woolly mammoth never missed a hairy appointment, and sometimes he brought his new mammoth friends with him.

Soon, everyone heard that Kingsley from 'Kingsley’s Hairy’s in Dombås' was a master at his craft.

Beasts and creatures from other towns started coming to his shop.

Like always, with imagination and good sense, Kingsley worked his magic again and again.
